Monte D'Oiro Wine Room

A wine tasting is a complex procession of flavors and aromas. The senses evoked by aged wines and exotic cheeses are enough to get your mouth watering but what of the physical and spatial experience that goes along with it? For this Bee Breeders’ competition (2019) for the vineyard at Quinto do Monte D’Oiro in Portugal, we sought to emphasize and complement the great procession of wine tasting by creating a procession of our own. Patrons pass through a series of walls that force a perspective over a great vineyard. Each wall they pass creating a slightly different spatial experience, akin to the slightly different notes experiences during a wine tasting session. The majority of this procession is spent in the main wine tasting chamber, where patrons continue to see and experience the procession behind them while looking over and observing vast vineyards.
